Sanam Khatibi’s work consists of painting, embroidery, tapestry and sculpture. The artist draws her inspiration from objects and art history, combining them in her inventive compositions. Her oil paintings bring together nude women with graceful, white, almost transparent bodies, sensually bathed in colour and light, existing in natural landscapes.
Khatibi’s permanent work for La Persagotière presents a stone sculpture echoing these paintings in which a giant, nude woman (5 m/16 ft. tall) made of peperino and partially covered with moss, stands tall like a caryatid. At the foot of the sculpture, various objects are laid out like offerings for a mysterious ritual that we are invited to partake in. Like an allegory for nature, Khatibi’s giant generates a lush thicket of vegetation and medicinal plants all around her.
For the 2023 edition of Le Voyage à Nantes, the work will be on display in Jardin de la Psalette in Nantes before joining La Persagotière for all eternity!
