Cours Cambronne
Le sursaut des bois courbes
Barreau Charbonnet

The southern magnolia is probably Nantes’ most emblematic tree, dating back to 18th century expeditions to the New World. Barreau Charbonnet invite the public to admire the Magnolia’s delicate flowers via a wooden structure made using a traditional naval carpentry technique called bois tors, or “knees”. In doing so, they create a visual and symbolic connection with the era of the great maritime expeditions, when ships left the port of Nantes and brought plant treasures back with them.

Nicolas Barreau and Jules Charbonnet were born in 1986. They live and work in Nantes.
