L’Enfant Hybridus
Jean-François Fourtou
Fourtou’s sculptures blur lines and create incongruity within their context, while also possessing a tender, poetic nostalgia for childhood. His “Hybridus” are fantastic half-human, half-plant entities. His Enfant Hybridus is a 5-m (16.5 ft.) tall figure with a palm tree for a head. This “child” plays facetiously with his environment, seemingly waiting for a future symbiosis between humans and plants in this stony, inorganic environment.
Do not climb the sculpture.
Jean-François Fourtou was born in 1964. He lives and works in Marrakech (Morocco).
He is represented by Galerie RX & Slag (Paris).
