Trained in calligraphy from an early age, Lassaâd Metoui draws as much inspiration from Western painting (Matisse, Paul Klee, Soulages…) as from East Asian art – and Japanese in particular.
This exhibition features roughly one hundred new works on canvas and paper, all created for the occasion. Inspired by the writings of the philosopher Kitarō Nishida, Metoui’s compositions – made using Japanese ink on kozo paper – will be enhanced with pictorial motifs inspired by past masters like Hokusai.
Lassaâd Metoui was born in Tunisia in 1963. He lives and works in Nantes.
