Cycling from Nantes to Clisson, via Vertou, pedal without moderation along the Sèvre Nantaise to discover Muscadet, one of France’s great wines.

In Vertou, a sign will let you know you’re 1,500 km (932 miles) from Santiago de Compostela…
Starting from Nantes’ Hôtel-Dieu skatepark, head out to the region’s vineyards by following the Nantes Sud/Rezé signposts. Along the same road – or almost – let the tram lead the way. Cross over the Loire to Rezé Pirmil, then turn left where the Sèvre Nantaise will become your new travel companion. Ride past hikers, joggers, Nordic walkers, and Highland cows…and, of course, other cyclists. Leave the noise of the city behind as you discover Vertou via the Chaussée des Moines footbridge built by monks circa the year 1000. And in Vertou, a sign will let you know you’re 1,500 km (932 miles) from Santiago de Compostela. But that’s another story – and another voyage…

We might as well cut to the chase: this itinerary is an absolute delight.
To get out of Vertou, you’ll need to follow La Vélidéale, and like treasure hunts – but we know you’ll be up to the challenge. By this point, you’ll be pedaling your way through the vineyards. Next up is Pé de Sèvre, Domino, and Port Domino, where you’ll be weaving your way down old stone roads. Before pausing at Le Moulin de Gervaux, Clisson’s oldest water mill, you’ll have finally arrived at this local “Little Venice”. Ride circles around its medieval castle and enjoy Clisson at your own leisurely pace.
